Alternatives to castration rings?

Any good alternatives to castration rings on longnet poles? I'm after something that doesnt perish so fast.

Grommets or cut bits of an inner tube from a bicycle tyre.

These are good, got to get the right size for your poles. Cheap as chips too. Use a clove hitch knot

Thanks the grommets look like a good idea. I assume the area the line goes pinches the knot tight and holds it in place?

yea mate they dont move, line goes in the groove. skip to the end of video shows some benefits of grommets
