Privatised Police Or Vigilante?

Recommended Posts

John Watson has set up his own private security company and is patrolling private Teeside residences from just £13 a year. The cuts in policing have opened up a demand for private security and JWS is just one of a new wave of companies emerging in the UK. His company is only a couple of months old but boasts 1000 customers and 20 major clients. Once you pay through Paypal your name goes onto his spreadsheet and they frequently patrol your home (claims every 20 minutes) and offer services that include responding to incidents and investigating crime.

He's been slammed as a vigilante by both MP's and the police crime commissioner but is that an attempt to deflect criticism from poor performance from the local authority?

Thoughts?

I thought theses sort of things have been about for a while. There a security guard on every night in my town he patrols the local supermarket ground which has a garage and they also do another garage/mower repair shop in the town along with a couple of other Businesses.

Police are no where to be seen where I live it's like they don't exist

Considering that I live in a densely populated area, there is a distinct lack of plod. A local woman got involved with an immigrant. ( silly, silly woman) in his culture the woman kept her place,  mouth and legs open. She didnt and he got aggressive. She got exclusion order, he came back and threatened to cut her throat and then jump out of window. (Not very high into flower bed). The neighbour called plod who took over half an hour to turn up. They then proceeded to sit in the car outside for another half hour and then stand out in the drizzle for another half hour until the immigrant got bored and hungry so he came out of the house, they then cuffed him and took him off for a nice cup of tea. Well it didnt  end up with any injury. What would a paid vigilante group have done? The immigrant could have still done what he wanted and if they had gone in, dragged the blighter out, given him  a bit of a kicking, the silly, silly woman would probably come out screaming assault and how she LOVED him. Plod can't win!

Privatise public services..... that'll be a big fat yes from me!

'Vigilante' is a bit strong. A vigilante is unaccountable, hence the moral ambiguity with them. This is not vigilantism at all, it's the free market! It's minarchism! No wonder public officials and legislators are pissy, they're being found lacking and being replaced.
