BSA MERCURY REFURB

Im looking at stripping my mercury down and doing a full restoration, it is one of the earlier models that is coated in the black enamal type paint what product would people use to replace this or would they reblue/reblack all the metal work

First off hows the lad doing bud and your self

tell him im asking after him .

If its a full restoration and you want to keep it as original as you can id say strip the enamel paint off

using a wire brush on a bench grinder take it down to silver like the one in the pics ill send you

and ether get some black enamel paint or the hamaright smooth black paint i use

its got a nice dark finish to it much like a pro sport finish to its action

you can blue it but its a lot more work

if you get stuck gis a shout and ill help you out bud

or if you get stuck send it up to me and ill sort it out for you

ps,,if you dont have a bench grinder you can use a wire wheel brush that fits in a drill

but you will need a vise to lock the action into before taking the old paint off

and put safety classes on the wire bits fly all over

thanks mac were both doing ok, the lads working down at billingham now, was killing him driving up and down to aberdeen every week end, he can spend more time with his two sons  now ill tell him you are asking after him, is everything ok with you, ive got a mercury that needs tidying up and an old airsporter in bits that someone gave me the airsporter is pitted in rust and i dont know if all the bits are there , ill have to check and probably have a go at sorting it. Thanks for the reply ill let you if I get stuck was wondering what spring to put in the mercury as someone had stuck an ox spring in it about 25 year ago

You should be able to get an original spring from chambers for the mercury

lovely rifles them air sporters

every thing is fine up here as well .

last time i was at your sons he had just got back from Aberdeen and he looked fecked
