chrismdd 787
Been a while since I've posted. Last six months been focusing on my river fishing and doing a bit ferreting (though the rabbits aren't around in great numbers at the moment). So today I dusted off the trusty S410 and ranged it up in the back garden. It was still spot on with AA fields but then I tried some Sovereign Rangemasters and the groupings really tightened up so I re-loaded all my magazines with these and headed to the copse for 6pm. Haven't been up there for a while and it was a bit of a shock to see a large number of big trees had been felled. So I decided to settle down opposite a small ivy covered oak and see what came along. A couple of squirrels soon ran through but I can never get the gun up quick enough to get a shot off on these. Then a male sparrowhawk came in and sat opposite and stayed for a few minutes. Half an hour in and the first woodie came in and landed in the oak, first shot and in the bag. It was another twenty minutes before another flew in, but as I raised the gun a second came in and presented an easier shot so this one was duly taken. Things were looking good, two shots and two woodies, but then things went decidedly downhill. First a shot at the only stationary squirrel in the copse resulted in the pellet being deflected by a closer branch, then three magpies came into the oak with just one showing its head above a branch but the pellet just skimmed its neck shaving off a couple of feathers. Then finally with the last light at 8pm I decided on a coffee and to take a photo just as two crows came in with what would of been the easiest shot of the day if I was still ready and not packing up. 5 Quote Link to post
