With the ammount they breed they’d have 100’s of excess pups. Think cut off point is 14wks. Atb

I had one off him that was nearly 6 months old I think in 2002. I think he got a stay of execution because he was a real character even with the minimal socialisation and what they charged wouldn't have covered costs (yes I am the soppy tw@t who falls for the sob stories). The dog was a doddle to train, if somewhat excitable, but sadly he turned out to have a genetic hip fault and Hancock admitted there were others with the same problem (he offered money back / free pup).  With the help of a rescue I managed to find him a less active home. Someone up thread was asking about 1/4 beardie crosses, my mate had one that he got at the same time. She was a nice dog and caught a bit over the years despite carrying a badly healed hip injury for most of her life. She just kept on going and I remember going ferreting with her a few days before she died when she must have been going on 15. She did occasionally do odd things when younger, but generally a laid back and even tempered type.

Being older and wiser I wouldn't go there again mainly because I am not comfortable with the lives their breeding stock must live. Maybe their collies might get occasional exercise, but find it difficult to believe with that many dogs that their greyhounds ever leave their pens. Would rather take my chances with a home bred or rescue one. The one I have now was an unwanted pup off pets4homes and is several leagues above the 2 hancocks I knew well in terms of ability in the field. Don't know why Hancocks don't sell up, being in such an exclusive area that site must be worth a fortune for housing.

In my experience, most folk who enquire about commercially bred, Collie based lurchers, have already made up their minds to purchase one.

I enquired and went to visit 5 years ago when I was across the water.......and decided it wasn't for me........

He will be half brother to mine then.

So the visit went well apart from the fact i was looking n acting pissed due to a virus that had me dizzy and nauseous. Which i hope is now going! Found it a touch harsh animals been kenneled up but thats only because mine are house dogs. Bitches had s good straw bed. Pups looked inquisitive and forward going like id want to see. Dams looked in good nick and all came over confidently for a an ear rub which i was happy to supply. Stud dogs had run of the land which i liked seeing. Again all steady tempremented, friendly and outgoing. Sally was informative and honest which i cudnt have asked for more. My pup is massive, he comes home on 14th April. Hes everything i hoped hed be and to say the hubby dosnt like merles he went to complete mush over this one, he kissed him and promised him a good safe life for the rest of his days so it looks like the choice is made. Hes going to be BIG lad but got the good vibes about him. There was no rushing us upon viewing we spent over an hour with the pups n bitches unsupervised which again stood in good stead for me. Everything i asked to see i was shown willingly. Hubby did ask about the dams getting exercised as to him exercise and stimulation is UTMOST important in a dogs life not sure if they go out on runs but the rest of it seemed absolutely fine ive no qualms about buying from Hancocks as the dog for my requirements. They seem decent people. They had pups there well over 16 week, which are vacced, lead trained, socialised ect so the chinese whispers of them doing away with them after a certain age don't sit true with me at all. Some cracking older pups there at min. So that's my experience of going. Im happy, dont listen to rumours. Make your own mind up. Heres mine hes 5 weeks here.

Hancocks are fine if you aren't bothered that the parents have never left a kennel

One of the dogs that came rolling up to meet us was my pups sire Albus so im certain its not a case that they never leave the kennel

Good luck with pup, mines out of merlin retrieve rabbit live to you. Best temperament iv had in a lurcher. Run other bits but early days. He be two come April I think, purposely held off abit with certain aspects as in my opinion still abit daft.. Although if there's something there he wants it.

Took him out ferreting first time couple month ago, it's not my game, but fair play he marked all day, incredible nose on him will find n put fox up too.

Held rabbits in net gentle, till I grabbed em... Stood off the hedges waiting, really couldn't fault him you swear he been at it most the season.

Only thing he was a wanker with was fences but now no issues. And he did have a blip with sheep on a hill around twelve months old so just bare in mind to keep on top of the stock breaking, mines very highly driven despite what is written time n time again.

Atb with pup.
