Working cairn terrier

Does anybody still work the Cairn terrier?

There’s a lad on here in the ratting posts that’s use a Westie with some success so maybe there’s a working Cairn terrier out there.

I had one about 20years ago,a ginger dog, good ferreting dog and would flush foxes,good ratter and guard dog,would attack intruders.Very few in oz today even less then.Had to pts at 7years due to an extreme flea allergy.I'm the only one over here I've heard of working one.He was a good little dog but nowhere near the level of my present Russell terriers.

I'm sure it's possible to work any terrier breed, depending on what you consider "working" of course.

farmer up the road has one mustard on rats and has had the odd fox in the bales

when discussing a bitch my own stuff is bred down from Brian Nuttall told me in the 50's there were still a few good working Cairn about the place , one dog a light choc/ginger with a pink nose was brought down from Scotland and bred into a few fell lines , the dog was a very good worker having worked fox,badger and otter and was a size the terriermen/huntsman liked , these days as already said can't see way they wouldn't be good ratters or bolt the odd fox

Dug to a fox with on a golf course with my mates little sisters cairn terrier back in 2002.....little brindle dog same shape size as a border. Keen little dog to be fair?

Iv only seen one ratting and it was as good as the Russell dogs on the day. Most pet ones still look handy little things.
