Hey guys anyone got/use one the ceramic rods . thinking of getting one just wondering if anyone has expierence of them.

I love em but since I moved to the Worksharp I only use it on knives that don't work for a living.

Rods?

I've a few of their sharpening systems. The only rod I have is diamond, for gut hooks etc, the ceramics I have are 30 degree and more for honing.

Well worth the diamond fine for an edge though.

I've use lansky for years an would recommend.

Do you have the medic? Looked at it but though the rods be better. Suppose on the medic you do have that diamond rod. Says it's for serrations but I'm guessing it can be used on a straight edge.

I do. Bit fiddly for my mitts but does the job. I used the 3 stone primarily but it is time-consuming if you have a lot of blades to sharpen. Personally, I switched over to the Worksharp because it does axes and goloks too. It's electric and while the purists' will sh*t themselves it's not done my 20-year-old Mora any harm. Medic is good for the pocket though especially if you've got a smaller blade.

Are the angles preset on the medic. It's just to sharpen my pocket knives.

I use a stone and have made two leather strops and brought a honing wax bar. The green one. Does the job but these ceramic rods seem all the age and get good reviews

Preset at 20º I think... 22.5º

I’ve got the 4 rod turn box  but I don’t use the box to set the angles , I just use the croc sticks freehand and my knives are shaving sharp . They are proper easy to use and it doesn’t take long to put a razor edge on them  . The sticks do need cleaning every now and then but Lansky do an eraser or you can use soapy water and a sponge .

Crox-sticks with ceramic rods are good for honing and touch ups but you'll be fighting a uphill battle if your edge needs even a small re-grind. I found them brilliant for an old knife I had that was made from Sandvik steel (same as stainless Moras) but shite for a Midnight carbon steel. Maybe just me?

I've got and used the lanski sharpening jig system thing. It'll give you a decent shaving edge but is a bit limited.

Now I use a pair of soft and hard Arkansas oil stones. Them things sharpen everything of every grind type to a very nice hair popping edge.

Now, I'd probably advise an 8" soft Arkansas with maybe a hard Arkansas and/or bench grinder buffing mop with green compound for that final bevel polishing and then something like those crox-sticks or a diamond paddle for field touch ups.
