Tips for a newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi, all

Im 31 and just about to start my journey into the world of lamping and lurchers, always had spaniels as a youngster and done plenty of beating, ferreting and shooting.

a few years back a mate took me lamping and the bug has got me.

Ive recently got myself a 3 month saluki greyhound as this is what my mate runs and I’m well impressed with his 3 bitches and what they can do.

New to running dogs and THL so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys,

Chris

Rule #1 dont get a sauki cross

Take your time with it,feed it the best meat  n bone you can afford.stock break it early doors, get it recall good, house it well, and have fun.

There is no rush. Thst applies to training, entering and working really. Go slow and steady. Not many dogs have been ruined by being too ready but a huge number have by not being ready enough.

Like above tag along with your mate, just spend time with your pup putting in the training and getting to know each other. Make training a game and take your time mate. Hope you have many good seasons together. And they is some good folk on here and there's some that knows fcuk all. Atb j

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea
