Kaiser Sozé 282
Different times FD, it was back when a majority of regular Russell's would do a bit and hunting was simply part of everyday life. She was well taken care of and lived a good long life, which is the aim of rehoming stray dogs. Never produced anything with the same working ability though ..ATB? Daniel cain 45,452
Didn't a dog ped unknown from the dog pound end up being bred into the Steven's line of terriers??? Or was it just a rumour started by jealous folk??? Quote Link to post
Greyman 28,441
I had a border Russell from the dogs home many years ago when digging was still legal, sadly died of cancer aged 9 but the most sensible level headed dog I,ve ever owned, she would stay down for hours, bay but never engage and you could call her out if the dig was a no go, she was also very true and if she went in 9 out of 10 times something was home, also got the best lurcher I,ve owned from the dogs home, I think it's more to do with the time I had to put in to the dogs than the breeding of them, I was out 5/7 days a week never worked and the dogs were with me everywhere I went, they even spent a few nights in the cells of the local police station with me, all of the dogs in the group were from the dogs home, the bigger lurcher had a lamping accident and never lived long enough to reach its potential and the Black and Tan terrier was a bit to headstrong but the whippet and the little brown bitch were the best I,ve owned, 13 Quote Link to post
dillydog 8,463
No rumour DC, the bitch in the lads hands was from a dog rescue center, without her there wouldn't be any of the others in the other pictures. If I could get another that worked like her I'd have the kennels on speed dial 18 1 Quote Link to post

dillydog 8,463
If you see something you like and you can give it a fair chance to blossom then why not ? I wouldn't advocate doing it when there's other options on the table, much better to find a well bred pup and put some time and effort into it. It's a long story how I came by Jess but the short version is I gave it a chance because I was going professional and it would at least give a decent terrier a rest when she was out instead. I chucked everything and kitchen sink at the bitch, it sounds c**t' ish but she didn't mean anything to me so I just kept piling on the graft. She never missed a beat, she made everything look easy and soon earned her place in my yard. Would I do it again. .......no, because I'm a terrier SNOB and it's beneath me ??
