Yeah I understand hunting men have always weighed their kills Neil, but to be out with just the terriers and to have such a big specimin in your hands, would seem a shame to do the inevitable just to weigh it

Had one go 20.5lb on a driven day two years ago. I took it home and weighed it as it was a fair size. I had intended to skin it but ended up just cleaning and peroxiding the skull. I could photograph and measure that if of interest to anyone.

Had a few dog foxes of similar size but never actually weighed. Most vixens tend to be standard size.

I'd love to see a 30lber. A 20 is a lump!

Many years ago we found one huge (dog fox) behind our works that had been shot and the head cut off.

Took it in and weighed it and it was bang on 20lb without the head.

Someone got a nice mask so. I have a mask on my wall of a 21 lb dog fox that a terrier I had called Duke killed. He killed a good sized vixen in the same earth but she was too damaged. Would have been a nice story if I had the 2 masks on the same plaque.

There was a hunting man in my house one day and he looked at the mask of the 21 pounder and asked was it vixen ? Maybe he only hunts 40 pounders, LOL.

The first one there Bryan can't be claimed as Britains biggest fox. I have a copy here of the 1971 Guinness Book of Records (I know, I'm a nerd.)  and the biggest fox ever killed by a pack of foxhounds was a 23 3/4 lbs dog killed by the Ullswater Foxhounds on Cross Fell in 1936.

A fox weighing 28 lbs 2 oz, measuring 54 inches was shot on the Staffordshire / Worcestershire border on 11 March 1956. The one in your picture weighs 26 and a half pounds.

And if that second fox in your link is 38 lbs then I'm a millionaire porn star.

heres the biggest vixen I’ve ever saw shot just outside my house a couple of weeks ago 

the biggest dog was 24 lb and that doesn’t sound heavy but it was huge there will be a pic of it here somewhere ...but for Reynard to reach 40 lb until I see one I find it very hard to believe

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Eddie, the fact it was shot in Westmeath might explain the exaggeration. So we can presume it was a 15 lb vixen, LOL.

Just as well it wasn't shot in Dublin. It would be a 60 pounder that had a child in it's mouth at the time, LOL.

Since I've moved to the sticks they seem a lot smaller than that though. Maybe urban foxes get too much easy food. 

town foxes that I've seen are generally bigger than the cuntry ones.

Nature has tailored the fox to meet its surroundings. Any bigger it would a pack animal .The 15lb norm needs minimal food to support its frame despite the wanton killing it does on occasion .Having kept a fox years ago it ate less than a small terrier but would hide anything given on top its' main meal.A 20lb fox is to be remembered and many look much bigger with the long coats seen more regular these days .Forget 40lb ers they don't exist.
