I used to breed them about 12 years ago had new Zealands and Californians and some hybrids from a guy up the road, was good fun I sold loads as giant house bunnies ( was the trend at the time ) I could get £4 from butcher or £30 as house rabbits, the bloke still breeds them and would sell you a trio am sure

he sells them to a dealer that I think sends them to France ,

i had a bank of 8 hutches 2ft deep 4ft wide if I was going to do it again I'd use wire bottoms

That's sounds  very interesting.  I would just be doing it for the table here. And pics of the set up you had. Or did you have them in sheds .

I know a lady with meat rabbits.. new zealand x flemish near castlerea, there was also a fella selling giant breed rabbit does at roscommon poultry sale last month. Im looking at going into it myself... on the american meat rabbit fb groups many of them talk about rearing pedigree standard rex as they get good prices for kits, nice pelts and a decent carcass

Nz x Californian are meant to be the best and my mate breeds them and pures for the table. I think it's 8 weeks their ready to slaughter but after that the growth slows down and the feed goes up.

There was a old guy used to bred new zealand whites and california's for eating used to see him out every day with a hemp bag and a sickle i dont think he ever feed them concentrates

Then a couple i know bred english rabbits and guinea pigs for pets at home  they used all the local shops and used to take there out of date stuff and feed it to them . It was funny to open a 6x4 shed and see rabbits sitting on shelves feck knows how they go to the shelves there was nothing for them to climb up on
