mattwhite 1,993
Just a quick question lads. Its been a bit milder over here the last couple of weeks. Pi#@ing down but milder. Crocuses, daffs, snowdrops are out all over the place and I've noticed that the majority of Maggie's I'm seeing now are in pairs instead of roaming in solitary. Even one of the rookeries i drive past wast really busy yesterday so is spring on its way? ? Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,557
Not quite Matt but try telling the plants and wildlife that. The British winters, in my parts, are not as cold as my childhood days and I think I built 3 snowmen for my kids ,who are now strapping blokes , in all those years. I`ve noticed the same mate but have you seen the wood pigeons pairing up and hopping around doing their mating routines early ? 1 1 Quote Link to post

We haven't had any snow this year at all. The only time I've seen it has been driving through snowdonia while delivering. I can remember plenty of snowy winters in Chapel an le frith where I grew up. We'd get some every year and working in Buxton was a pain in the arse as you needed a bloody plough to get in and out? I'm not complaining mind, I've done my descents down steep lanes in empty vans sliding all over the show ?? Quote Link to post
shaaark 10,806
Very mild down my way in south wales, snow not really worth mentioning, apart from some higher ground which had a light covering weeks ago. Chaffinches been pairing up for the last 2-3 weeks and goldfinches pairing up since the last week. And like you said, daffs etc shooting up everywhere. I was drifting on a boat after trout one Saturday and I saw a huge hen pike behaving like a bull shark, tearing at a dead sheep floating past the boat. Her back was like a bloody dunlop tyre in width! 1 Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,557
Biggest pike I ever saw was at loch Ken is it called ? A skull hung on the barn door at a farm house we stayed at. Apparently this skull was washed up on the fore shore years back - it looked as big as a horse skull first glance. 2 Quote Link to post

You may remember those days well Mark but you are an old tart when all is said and done.........................................................hmmm, retract that because I am older than you, perhaps we read about those days in a book of the olden days, I'll get my hat n coat. Looking at the pike stuff is making me think I had better get my lure gear out and have a session cos it has been an age since I went piking so it is about time. I do have a stunning Dragon rod and Quantum reel for sale if anyone is interested, must get them on the sales section soon. Phil 1 Quote Link to post
