HI,

My name is Darren and i live over here in N Ireland.Ive been hunting with ferrets for close to 20 years now but in the past 4 years , ive taken up falconry, ive got a female harris hawk , (shakira )

To add to what im doing , i bought a springer pup bitch ( Bracken ) to help me with cover.

I was wondering if any one could give me a few pointers in the right direction for training her, whats the best books, what would be commom mistakes that i could avoid ?

Thanks for your help with this

try TRAINING&FIELD TRIALS by P.R.A.MOXON or GUNDOGS SENSE AND SENSABILITY by WILSON STEPHENS, or TRAINING THE ROUGHSHOOTER'SDOG by P.R.A. MOXON

there the books ive got,

ive got a cocker that am going to be working under a bird of prey, when the dog is fully trained to the gun..

theres nowt better then working a bird of prey and a dog, best of luck darren

Hi mate you have probably bought a book by now but if you haven't then the best book, for a beginner to training spaniels, imo is gundogs and their learning chain by Joe irving good luck

make sure the training is great fun.

however, with spaniels you do have to be quite firm sometimes.

i have found that it is best to keep your voice quiet so that they strain to here you, but firm.

if you start shouting you will always be shouting, they learn to just hear it as a loud noise rather than a command.

all the best with her, when you get springers right they are great dogs to work with.
