" The Holy Grail" - we all seek the " Best" rifle/ calibre

Recommended Posts

I`m going to keep this very short lads, - We all seek the best, we can/think of at sub 12 ft/lbs - " be honest" don`t we ?

I`m looking to finish off the cabinet I keep with a spring rifle :good:- very open to opinions lads - with a laugh as well   -  twats.

I have put a question to an extremely well respected air rifle tuner -" which rifle ???? name, do you consider the best tuned hunting rifle in .177 that you tune " ? whether stage 1 or stage 101 - which rifle / calibre ? please ? I`ve asked ?

Before he answers, which spring rifle lads  would you go for, tuned and calibre of .177 please.

:snack:                                     Thank you for your honesty :good:

It would have to be a combination of tunability and aesthetics for me Mark and as good as a tuned 97 is and as good as a tuned tx is I would have to go with the pro sport as it will tune the same but in MY opinion , its the best looking springer on the planet?

PS....You love a good cock fight don't you???

Mark in all honesty mate. Maybe your gonna be hard pressed to find anything noticeably better than what you have... especially in the same caliber.

Whats on your shortlist? Out of interest.

In .177 I prefer something a little heavier up-front. Out of the box you will struggle to better a TX200 and I like the looks and feel of the HC. For a felt improvement between out of the box and nicely tuned then a HW97 should be a good choice.

A lot of lads like the Walther LGU but having seen a few be in need of serious repairs in not a lot of time, I'd have to pass personally.

I have done a lot of gliding and tuning jobs on the HW97's and they are easily as good as a TX or LGU once done and are really strong.

If you have not yet played with or shot a ProSport, try one if you can. The cocking mechanism can take a bit to get used to as it pivots way back near the trigger. It feels like one of the old airsporters to some degree but shoots totally different, i.e. lovely.

For me.... TX200 HC

Ripley mate

I must admit I didn't know Ripley made anything other than pneumatics... my personal favorite... the Hogan Riply Elite... absolute airgun f'kin porn. End of. Don't do um anymore I think... in fact they wouldn't would they.

Any image of the springers?

Well I let that one slip :good: yes mate I`m looking hard at the Ripley pcp avenue , - some fine reviews I must admit .

Some fine rare coinage too... be nice to see one taking game if you get one... rather than them being used as bloody bench queens and FT rigs.

I'm led to believe that Ripley Elite's are still being made and sold. A HFT shooter at my local club has just placed a deposit and is expecting delivery real soon...

He already has one that I serviced for him last september. Lovely guns but quite basic by todays standards.

Wighill park's website says they're on offer for £499.00 at the mo....

You are correct pistol... I'm kinda referencing the original Ripleys from the 90's - the original elite. But yes, you can still get new ones. But there a kinda mish mash of two companies, Steve Wilkins or Wilkin I think his name and some other chap or something... basically a Brocock/DS sort of agreement, but on a much lesser scale.

Decent old ones are a small fortune, as manufacturing techniques have come one, they can indeed bang um out for lesser.

Well I didnt know that... The older ones I've had through my hands were all very well made and refined copies of the old Logun Rifle platform.

They were nice rifles too.

Anyway, back to topic eh. Spring guns wasn't it.... lol

How old are you pistol? If you don't mind me asking. And how come you've not just joined THL? Off topic I know but as you'll soon see, most threads go way off topic anyway.
