When I lived in the forest ,coal delivered got to £21 a bag an it was fortnightly deliveries,

coal bought from the mine weekly on a first come /served basis which meant queuing for couple hours was £10 a bag or about £5 for peas which could be burnt when fire was bedded in,

wood licence from forestry commission was £10 a year.

as for the other stuff always kept plenty tins in an few candles etc

few years ago I went full prepper an had tins under kitchen kickboards,bulk toilet roll from lidls in loft ,toothpaste sacks of rice etc but in end changed my mind and used it all up.

and I realised with the 2 autistic stepsons here I'm wasting my time as the younger one has no comprehension of rationing an the eldest one just ignores me ,

We rent this property,the kitchen needed new flooring as it broke so was replaced an kickboards got screwed on so not constantly taking them off/on it's also going to be completely refitted in march .

i had thought about starting again but I think it makes me a bit paranoid ? TBH

Hard to keep house coal in all night burns a bit quick, as it's his main source of heat and hot water he does need the ovals that are a bit more expensive but I still get taybright for £9 a 20kbag that stays in all night when it's really cold and just throw the scaffold planks in all day surprising how prices vary over the country

I'm the same although I wouldn't necessarily call it a survival bag more of a bag of many things! Like this time of year, I keep MRE's a stove and water in the truck, along with warm clothes a shovel and 40lb bag of salt. Prepper? No common f*ck*ng sense when you live in the mountains and you're 30 miles from the nearest WiFi Starbucks! I've just checked it's still there and put an extra fuel can in for the JetBoil as it's supposed to dip to -23º tonight as the first snow storm of the season is due to roll in. Summer is the opposite as the temp hits triple digits you carry as much water as you can. A couple of years ago I hit a deer in my truck a blew out both front tires. I was fine and walked it out when the snow stopped and the sun came up. Where I work is very high crime area so it's body armour and extra mags along with food and water. Paranoid prepper? Walk around North Vegas for a couple of hours and tell me what you think then!

Personally, I don't see a collapse in civilisation the way Hollywood portrays it. I'm sure there will be regular thinning of the herd but we're social creatures and if we were intent on eating each other the population wouldn't have doubled in the last 40 years. We're being conditioned to believe that we need a system to rely on 24/7 when the reality is that humankind has done just fine without it. Again we're back to those that can and those that have an app for it. Paranoia sells gear to the worried the same way Apple sells phones to the gullible.
