rob reynolds uk 3
A good working dog will like WORK over ANYTHING,...if i had a dog, that liked sitting on the sofa MORE than work, how the hell can you call that a worker? thats what im saying a dog drinking out of a bog dont all dogs do that if given the chance ..mind you if it was in its run it would not need to drink out of one mind you iv never known a dog to be a good worker becouse it drinks bog water .. i wounder if thats were im going wrong ..i think you missed the point in what i was trying to tell you lot .fuss a dog pat the fecker when you see it ,but dont let the kids have it sleeping on the bed and treat it like a doll ect or your be sorry ..its your muts so you do what you like ,i have a yard full of working dogs that fly to ground and not one has drank bog water yet  mind you my misses did dress one up once just for the crack and its never been right since tell you some thing else the hardest dog in the yard does not make it the best worker to ground and thats a fact ..dont forget we are talking terriers here .. Royston2 0
A working terrier is born whether you moddle coddle it or have it in a run and pet it just when you see it if it is going to make the grade it will no matter....Each to there own i suppose i dont think giving a terrier to much fuss would ever tamper with its capabilties to work to ground but thats my oppinion.. Royston2 0
I have had enough terriers to know they have all had alot of interaction with the family playing and being fussed and it has never altered it`s working capabilities i would imagine that anyone that says that too much fuss effects the dogs working ability is using that as apoor excuse for either wrong entering or just plain poor breeding or even just a failure..Some dogs work some dont but it aint through the attention they get i dont think....... alimac 882
iv seen dogs ruined by kids ,they go soft thats a fact .nothing wrong in the odd stroke ect and bit of fuss but let a dog be a dog and not a doll..you start to namby pambe dogs they get used to the easy life and like the sette over going to work in the ground ,seems to much like hard work for them once they have tasted the easy life ..if you say other wise you aint had meny dogs in your life ..we all learn the hard way .. no being arsey , but imo if the dog is bred right and has the heart to be a proper earth dog, or any other working dog for that matter, then its should make no difference at all on how kean they are at the job, even in the worst of weathers... but i guess that just because i have not seen it , it dont mean i cant happen, but i would put it down to the dog not having heart for its work in the first place, again no offence if you were refering to one you have had in the past.. one of my lurchers spends its time when not working, in front of the fire in the biggest fluffy rug you could ask for, and gets fussed more than than most, but when she sees her slip, or lamp getting broughtcoutetc that switch gets turned to work mode and shes at the jeep door before iv even put my boots on... would like to hear other OPINIONS on this...( oups didnt look on page two before i posted ) Edited December 27, 2007 by alimac Quote Link to post
FAT CITY 0
i don't think that i have seen any dog that would pass up a chance to sleep on the sofa :alcoholic: Quote Link to post
rob reynolds uk 3
i have a lurcher that will lie on the sette all day if given the chance and will run her hart out all night ,but theres no way you could get her down some dark hole to meet some thing with teeth ready to rip her face off plus she wont fit down there terrier work is like nothing else they do or they dont ,if the truth been known most dont or just give up as its a hard life being a working terrier..i know of a bloke who breeds patterdales and give one out of the litter to his kids to have ,it was treated like a baby carried every were ,sleeped on the bed ect you no what i mean ,all the other dogs and bitchs out of the litter were proper dogs and work and acted like real dogs ,the kids dog was shit just run round like it had some thing missing from its brain..it was as soft as my last shit ..it would not even go near a rat ..the bloke whos dog it was said he would never let the kids do that to a dog again ..both the perants of the pups were from working stuff ..just as well the dog got run over out side his farm .now if any body on here knows better, not just what they think or has heard about some dog that did or did not..i like to work on fact or things i no is true by seeing it my self first hand .i wonder if all the big names in the terrier world bring there dogs up like the kids did ,i think not ,they know better and so do i ,when i bring my pups up i treat them like dogs not dolls and them that have seen my dogs work no they fly to ground ..big up my dogs yes a good dog from good stock can be ruined by kids or a complet twat Quote Link to post

alimac 882
Maybe it's just the better dog that can do both. true true, rob i quote a bit in your last post, " terrier work is like nothing else , they either do or they dont " says it all for me...... its like your tellin me people like kye and co go up for high altitude training and stay in a shed rather than a house just to sharpen him up as staying in the house will ruin them.... rob reynolds uk 3
not so much as the house but kids that ruin dogs ,but it does help if you harden of your terrier to the out side conditions ,a dog that uesd to the nice warm fire all day will feel the cold when out ,in fact a bet a house dog will not want out of the house on a very cold day even for a piss unless it gets a boot up its arse and when it is out i bet its back at the door trying to get in from the cold in no time ,what good is that if your going out digging all day and the dog is standing about ready to go to ground waiting its turn ,if it goes to ground that is ,i bet its thinking of its nice warm bed in the house terriers should be hardend to the cold ,iv had terriers sleep out in the snow in my yard ,daft as a brush maybe , i dont know but iv seen it .this is the sort of dog that you need .a dog can get fussy if you let it .i gave up one of my dogs a few years back the father to all my dogs i have now ,eat anything ,sleepet out in the cold and snow had no fear of any thing ,had to get rid as he did not get on with his own sons ect and was always fighting over nothing ,gave him to a woman i know ..it now will sleep no were but on her bed and will only eat food out of the plastic package stuff that fanny lickers eat spoilt rotten it is ..now this is the same dog that beat up her staffy on the first day at her house ,iv told her i would soon have it back to its old ways eatting what i put down or it would starve but you know dogs they wont starve ,they will eat anything when they are really hungery ..she said its ok ..whish i never gave it to her now, Quote Link to post
FAT CITY 0
i look at it this way . it doesn't matter what he looks like as long as he works at what task that you have at hand for him to do a dog will do what a dog will do and thats all you can ask . if he does more than that then your lucky Quote Link to post
