jwed 16
Hi Lads, thought id share a project myself and a mate worked on. We built a brew system we saw on YouTube. Using old beer kegs. Cleaned polished and plumbed. We added heating elements, temp gauges Hermes coils and pumps to move between legs. We did everything ourselves, even bought steel to weld for the frame. The build was great fun and hopefully the beer will be an added bonus. We bought two voltage regulators to control the heat in the elements to make life a bit easier. Thanks for looking. Edited November 29, 2017 by jwed
jwed 16
We got a specialist to do the stainless steel plumbing/ welding on the keg fittings. Everything else we did ourselves.

Jwed, what part of the brewing process is that particular set up for?

Hi That kit does the whole process. I’ll explain the set up and process. As you look at the kit in the top picture consider left keg (L) middle keg (M), Right keg (R). In (R) we have a heating element and hermes coil. We heat water in that and continuously pump it into (M) where the malt barley is – this is the sparging process. Once that part is complete we pump the wort into (L) and heat the wort adding hops as required. (L) also has a heating element. Once the wort is ready we cool it using a cooling coil attached to a tap via a hose. When cooled we open the pipe at the bottom of (L) and drain it into the fermenting tub and add the yeast. We added the voltage regulators on both elements last weekend so can now control heat a bit better, previously it was a case of switching off power when it heated to high. Neither of us are experts, very much learning as we go so if anyone has any tips or pointers how to improve the process it would be great to hear. Hope this helps.
