Hi guys, Was wondering if anyone can help...Due to the fact I was a ahyperactive little cnut when I was little, I was worse than any on that suppernanny thing!!! I was ritalined right up :11: I constantly ran everywhere...As I got older I played in Time Football, Squash , cROSS COUNTRY , Rugby Uniun , Badminton , In fact most sports/. AT 13ISH I also did Thai Boxing but gave it up at 19 due to developing Shin slint like symptoms. Arthiritis runs like a plague in my family and I didnt want to enhance my chances of being a cripple. The dogs toook over anyway at 18 and I have just started playing footy again this season.... But lately my ankles are soo weak its unbelieveable. I go over on my right at least twice a game and play on with painkillers. It goes over when lamping etc but reached a nadir today as I was playing squash , I rolled over on it after 10 secs of playing....

I do wear a lightweight ankle sock support on it but it doesnt help greatly. Im going to rest it ..apart from hunting....for a month...Can any ex forces lads or anyone who has suffered this affliction help with any advice on how to prevent this occuring so often?

get yourself to a chiropractor, they will (if they are needed) make you a set of orthotic footbeds which set your ankle up properly... they hurt till you get used to them, but long term they are a lifesaver.

i have a detached ligament in one ankle, had a duff hip at age 12 and rubbish knees keeping them apart! and wouldnt be without. they might cost 200 quid, might be less. or from a camping/ climbing type place there are insoles called superfeet which are an off the shelf alternative. if they fit, they are nearly as good, but only 50 quid

I've the same problem Hawkeye. I'm susceptible to going over on the old ankles, and in fact did this a few months ago during work. Walking in deep heather, I went over on my left ankle and nearly collapsed in pain. It's never been the same since then. I've a pin in my right ankle which doesn't help and I need to concentrate late in the day if I'm to remain upright whilst coming off the fells. The doctor said "it'll happen all the more as I get older"....c*nt :realmad: !! Just recently found out that I've a feckin' bunion :( , so that's a new pair of boots as well. I might take Chillits advice too or look for a real good ankle support.

heres the techical bit.. bunions are a sure sign of pronation, meaning your ankle is turning as you push off on that foot. i reckon its superfeet for you too. wont cure bunions, but should stop em getting any worse.

i am not, nor have i ever been sponsored by these items... :D

but i have sold and modded boots for people with 'okkerd' feet its suprising what can be cured from weak ankles to back ache, just by standing and walking properly

we used to steam boots to make em fit too but thats another story...

dont know your location mate but my mrs studied podiatery (sp?) at the uni in Salford many years ago - they used to make the very supports chillit describes. There was a 'walk in' (scuse the pun :D ) surgery where you could be treated by the trainees for fr  ee! - most of the time it was hobos with serously manky feet

The mrs has just said you may get the same at Durham uni as well

get it sorted soon mate - supernation or pronation of the foot can lead to knee/hip replacements

This might be the more likely reason. All over your body you have receptors, each receptor sends messages to your brain. If at anytime you have gone over or hurt your ankle you will most likely have damaged the receptor.

If thats the case what happens now as soon as you start to go over on your ankle your damaged receptor cant get the message to your brain quick enough for your brain to tell the rest of your body to re balance to prevent you going over. Hence the reason why you constantly go over, and cant understand why.

Sorry for the long winded reply but thats roughly how it was explained to me.

Sure there are people hear more switched on than me so add your bit or correct me where I am wrong.

I make orthotics for a living, i would urge you to be careful if you decide to look at getting orthotics. There are a lot of shit bags that no f**k all about orthotics making a killing supplying people with insoles, ankle supports etc etc. its quite lucrative so you get all sorts chiropractors, osteopaths, podiatrists physios etc etc etc all trying to get your cash.

To be honest, if you have a repetative ankle inversion injury (which it sounds like you have) an insole will be of no benefit. in these situations an ankle brace of some sort is more effective. The aircast airsport or the donjoy velocity are two that ive found to work pretty well.

Some good advice there, one thing to think about is when you are not in pain and going to walk on flat even ground under no circumstances wear a support. The support will prevent the anckle from strengthening due to lack on neccesety. When you are walking on the rough ground in the country and I dont mean farm tracks I mean up in the moors and the likes. Wear the support and some very sturdy boots.

You need to get a physio program to build up strength in the ligaments and muscles arround the anckle. A core stability program will help improove balancs and make you less likely to go over in the first place.

Dont give in to it and start wearing a brace for the rest of your life unless it is the last resort.

Sorry to hear your having bother mate :( I cant offer much advise as I havent suffered with that particular problem but I do have a back problem which means every time Im exercisisng im in pain and most of the time Im sitting or standing Im in some degree of pain as well. I only had sporadic pain until the horseriding accident, now its every fecking day :realmad: . I wouldnt advise using painkillers too much, as they numb the pain and you can end up feeling worse after exercise when they wear off. I sometimes take a couple painkillers if theres something I really want to do, I pop a few before hand and usually feel like superwoman for a few hours, I pay for it later on though

I wear a back brace when it gets really bad but its an uncomfortable fecking thing and digs in under my armpits and cuts my belly in the middle making me look like Ive got 3 spare tyres instead of just 2 :11: :11:

Most of the time I just tend to put up with it to be honest, theres a nagging pain there all the time, but Id rather have that than be on painkillers all the time.

Besides, It gives me summat else to moan about and us women like to moan :11: :11:

The pain relief methods I use at the moment are distracting myself by any means possible, (sometimes hurting other parts of your body helps, sounds weird but sometimes kinky sex games can take your mind off it   :11: :11: ) and hot baths are good. You can combine the two and have kinky sex in the bath, it wont cure yer ankles (specially if you slip and fall over :11: :11: ) but it will take yer mind off the problem mate :good:
