Blackbriar 8,569
I only found out this morning that the public sale of fireworks is banned in "Norn Iron" - you need a license to buy them apparently. In these health and safety obsessed times, is it a matter of time before this happens here on the mainland ? On the downside, hundreds of people are injured every Bonfire night, thousands of animals terrified, yobs use fireworks like weapons and countless tons of pollutants are thrown into the atmos........... On the plus side, most firework users AREN'T injured, they do bring a great deal of enjoyment, if used safely, and they're only on sale for a short period. So, should there be some sale restrictions, or are we happy putting tons of explosives in the hands of rank amateurs ?
scothunter 12,609
Some of the off the shelf ones are bit to powerfull to sell to some amateur for the back garden or some teen who thinks its funny to set off in the street. In my day they were pretty basic ones sold over the counter

In my day they were pretty basic ones sold over the counter I do agree about the more powerful fireworks, a few years ago my sisters boyfriend paid about quid for 1 firework...when it came to lighting it everyone decided to go indoors and watch it through the kitchen window, the force of the firework igniting knocked it over...if we hadnt been indoors then the whole family wouldve faced the firing squad and i dread to think what wouldve happened...like you say display quality fireworks arent needed for joe blogs back garden! We dont bother with doing our own, we just go to a couple of displays in the local area Edited November 3, 2017 by dave88
