Bosun11 537
Once upon a time, when hares were prized as food, rather than left to rot and few dogs could take em regular, gate netting was the most popular method of taking hares... Quote Link to post
Blueboybilly 164
Id prefer to give and quarry a decent sporting chance personally. Longnetting a poor Hare sounds a bit like shooting fish in a barrel to me if Im honest! 1 Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Know what your saying Billy but i recon there's more to taking a hare in a net... Recon it'd be a fair bit harder than some do by spinning one with a lamp with a part bred desert dog and then skimming it in a ditch... Those with the skills to net propper knew the worth of a big strong hare. Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
I think you'll probably find those who are netting hares aren't killing them but moving them 3 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
For guys that were out of work, or resting, good clean Hares were always worth a few quid,..so you had to take them, anyway that you could There was a vast difference in sport and profit hunting....and the hares just made up part of the weekly bag, alongside the pheasants and Roe... Nowadays, I have a pension to fall back on,...so no more sitting up behind nets for me... 5 Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Done loads of it and it was never a case of setting your net and reaping the rewards. There's a lot of field craft involved, even if you had an army. 5 Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,763
Johnny Kingdom did a piece on long netting hares and relocating them onto a patch of land on his TV series a few years ago. I'd say legal, but not at all certain. Quote Link to post
