Feeding Wild Birds.

Recommended Posts

Yes feed them too get through kilos of sunflower hearts and dried mealworms. Last week I stocked up on 50 quids worth. We get robin's, sparrows, blue tits, collard doves and mega flocks of gold finches. As soon as I hear the Robins at dawn soon followed by goldfinches I know the seasons changed. Never see either through the summer.

Mother in-law always feeds birds nice to see them in the garden.

However they do attract vermin, this one chewed a hole clean through a keiter bench seat a week before.

Have also nailed a few rats under the bird table.

Where do you guys buy your feed from?

I have 3 peanut feeders on the go and 3 finch feeders (niger seed)
Bought 20 kg of niger seeds a while back, about 50 quid online. Usually buy peanuts locally at mole valley.
But if you have any cheaper sources online, post them up as living next to a forest, in the winter i get through loads of the stuff and it seems to get more expensive each year.
A few years ago, i bought peanuts in bulk from bartholomews and got it about 10 quid cheaper per sack (25kg sacks). All the people that promised they would buy them from me bailed out at the last minute, leaving me with about 15 sacks of peanuts! :icon_eek: Never again!

You have to be careful buying Niger seed it needs to be fresh if its not fresh the oils are probably dried out and it's no good.
