Hi there, new to this and have a lab/cocker cross, really intelligent and picks things like retreiving up in a few hours, but she is mental.

I take her out for a walk when ever my mate is out with his lurchers and the lamp, as that is not her game she sometimes causes more hassle by geting in their way, but she loves it none the less.

Ideally she would be of the lead all the time and get in to the bushes come back and go only about 30m but she losses interest in this quite quick and just wants to run, her recall is good and improving every night. She is just not happy unless she is running with the lurchers!!

Any ideas on how i get her of the lead not running really far ahead and how i encourage her to get in amongst those bushes???

No free running get choke chain and lead .Get the dog to up Tap your leg left [with dog on left ]say heel walk forward if dog pulls ahead of your knee tug choke change direction keeping dog within 4 inches of knee ... if it pulls ahead stops or tries to go in opposite direction pull it in ..turn or give it up command ..Advance after a couple of days to walking in squares when ever changing direction give heal command sooner or later dog will stay at your side watching your knee and waiting for change direction..Once doing that to your satisfaction,,could tale a week or two take lead off.Keep choke chain on repeat with heal commands. Then remove choke the dog should stay at your side.Teach her then stay command .Get her used to her staying down sat ..as you move away then you walk back to dog making sure she stays sat on same point. Then start alternating ..dog sat you move away then give her heal command she should come in and stay at your side.

Once you and dog are working as a team then try and move on...to other trianing needs ..

Ok pal i ll try that with the choke chain, as i have done what you say without it and she is good on or of the lead on her own but put another dog in the mix and its all over.

Cheers mate

Dont take her out with other dog train her so shes 100 focussed on you not wondering what other dogs doing ..Try not give her other distractions till you know shes 100 percent on you. The choke chain is not to be used as a punishment just a gentle reminder ....to make her think shes still on lead.

Good luck..

Agree with all said previously. Keep the dog away from the lurchers, when they are young they want to go to any dog near, no matter if that other dog wants to chew them up.

When they get a bit older they are more wary of other dogs, and that's good in my book. You want it to be part of your pack, not someone elses.
