Ideally you want the shoots to be just clear of the surface before the hard frosts. When you think about it, they are rhe same family as onions and leeks which handle the cold weather with no problem. Just as an aside, if you are bothered at all, get some straw and cover with a couple inches and sling a net over to stop blwing away a. DIDO.1 22,844 Posted October 15, 2017 Author Report Share Posted October 15, 2017 Got 3 large garlic and two bags of onion sets for a tenner at the range....plus 3 bags of tulip bulbs for a tenner....cashier put em all through and only charged me a tenner for the 6 bags!
