patterdale 674
I've just got myself a nice finished seasoned and clear varnished thumbstick, would it be OK to store it just inside my front door just by the pipes that supply a radiator or could the heat cause it to warp? Its not right upon the pipes a couple of inches away. low plains drifter 10,786
It'll be alright mate, but if the varnish comes off give it a rub down with linseed oil, once a day for a week, once a week for a month, then once a year for life

neil cooney 10,416
what makes the best shaft iv broke 2 hazel thumb stick in space of a week There must have been a weakness or they weren't seasoned fully. Did you season them yourself ? I use a Hazel thumbstick every single day and use it as a tool not just a walking stick and they'll take some abuse.
neil cooney 10,416
So they broke at their weak points. A one piece seasoned hazel thumbstick is a very sturdy tool.
