TOMO 26,042
we always used to wear an old siut jacket or sports jacket, buttons off ,replased with lases. the top left hand breast pocket had a slit cut in the bottom. then your pegs would just go in through there. and would just go down inside the linning , with a few inches sticking out so you can pull them out easy Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,042
as for those army great coats, tried one years ago to big to heavy and to much flapping round your legs. hated it. but if it works for you thats all that matters Quote Link to post

ianrob 2
hi guys can any one advise me on where to get a jacket for long nets one that i can put a extra peice on the inside for the wands thanks in advance To make a quiver for the pegs, use a leg from an old pair of jeans. Sew it into an old combat jacket or whatever, and as everyone says, no buttons. I use 25" pegs mostly, so make your quiver to fit the pegs you use. Quote Link to post
Crow 1
Yep, as has been said an old army surplus coat minus the buttons. Another good pole holder (quiver) can be made from the litle bag that tent poles come in - that's assuming you have an old tent laying around of course - or the bag that you get with those really cheap three-legged stools at game fairs (about £1.99). The advantage of the latter is the draw cord which holds the pegs tight as you leg it off the field Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
Hello mr oldroyd, i was wondering how wide your net is in that top picture because if you look carefully you can see the net trailing on the floor through your legs. do you not find that your forever standing on it whilst setting it? I bet with a coat that size you can carry plenty of nets, at least 200yrds i would have thought if not more Edited December 24, 2007 by mole catcher Quote Link to post
R_Oldroyd 17
Mole catcher, No i don't trip on the net in the pic i am close to the end peg. Me personally, i pull the nets bag tight near the pin so that it is easier to place the pins together and the hold the pins together with castation rings, quiter than elastic bands they just roll off . May have picked the net up and not put the pin throught the net and just through the head and foot lines thats why ithwe net has dropped so low. Well spotted thought. I usually only do 150yds. 2 50yd in the pockets and 1 50yarder over the shoulder. the pockets could hold 75yds in 4 ply in each pocket. In nylon a lot more. Regards Roger. P>S the great thing about the this type coat is for longnetting it is tight on the shoulders so it takes the weight of the nets well. Wind and thorn proof. It is abit of a phantium flasher coat i know. Edited December 30, 2007 by R_Oldroyd Quote Link to post
