Greyman 29,638
Woke up this morning to traffic chaos outside my house, two Lorry,s have crashed on a motorway junction nearby causing total mayhem, so instead of trying to go to work and join the gloomy faced crowds I loaded my rucksack and dogs into the van and set off in the opposite direction, have enjoyed three hours of absolute bliss, clear but chilly with a heavy dew on the ground, the trees are starting to wear there Autumn clothes and the ground is soft enough that your not rolling your ankles every two steps, I never met a single person on my travels and have covered 8-9 miles of wonderful countryside, have just returned home to the same stressed out faces sat outside all trying to google a route out of the madness and someone I know has just told me they have been on the same bit of road since 7.30 it's now 11.45 so I thought I,d have a little gloat after having a lovely morning
Jonjon79 13,358
As an old boy used to tell me - 'Up there for thinking, down there for dancing' Sounds like a cracking morning
scothunter 12,609
Similar morning. Didn't do 9 mile but walked along the caladonian canal for a few miles pretty wet but up here its like that a lot lol. Only passed a few hikers and they will be the last of the season. its good to get out and not be bothered with anyone. Collected some firewood and watched a few highland cattle having a daft half hour running around a field lol Back home dried off and gonna have a bowl of soup in a bit.

I could work twice as long, and move and earn twice the going rate but all this would pass me by. It's a cliche but I'll take the quality over the quantity any day and I'm glad I figured it out when I did.

My mate and myself often stop look at the view and say you can't buy that. We so appreciate where we live and how lucky we are so many people don't. Cheers Arry

Blackbriar 8,569
So many people fall into Oscar Wilde's view of a cynic......"a man who knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing". Like everyone else, I love the solitude you can find in the countryside, but I can equally sit quietly in the town and just watch the world go by..... For me, the best things in life really are free !
