Rat Bait

Recommended Posts

I find that what one lot of rats might like on one perm rats on another perm won't even go near. It's trial an error. One thing I do do for rats is put down some wooden pallets and then put what ever bait under there. If the bait is just on the ground they snatch and run, if it's under a pallet they'll feel safe and more likely to stay. If there is certain areas where rats come out of their nesting area put a pallet there as well. They'll come out and sit under the pallet before running to another area. I have a pick up so can take lots of pallets and place them about if need be, more the better. Rats are very wary of any thing new though, it's called Neophobia, so it might take some time for them to get comfortable with any changes in their surrounds/environment so you have to be patient some times.

The ones under my daughters shed loved choccy chunks ,but ours liked Lidl,s beef cat food ,like Pledgey said its trial n error .You,d think rats would eat anything but you can trick them ,a cheap red led above the feed seems to draw their curious nasty selves in and pop you do the rest.

I've never used bait - the 2 places that I have for rat shooting, we've sussed out their runs and, where they go for food.

One is a huge grain silo - they live in the banks by it and, come out under a near by pallet for the spilled grain.

The other is a pig farm - they run through the bushes at the back of the pens and, we usually shoot them off the troughs.

They can be wary of anything new so, I just leave them to do what they know and, pick them off while they go about their business

We had an elderly people's home pulled down a few years back opposite our house that backed onto fields so all the local rats moved en masse and created havoc with poultry etc.

I used fish skins from work to bait them and they never failed?
