night time ferreting

anyone ever had a go at ferreting,at night time ?

we done it once years ago had a few to ,but the moon and the stars were with us that night

you could always use those small glow tubes about 1" long that go on top of floats for night fishing..

that would be good,ddent have them in my day though,but iff used today id bet you'd have one hell of a good night

he was poaching in front of some big house when he was a young lad ,cant remember what him and his mate got will ask him .

was a thread on this a while back started a few rows if i remember right . all the "NEW" genaration ferreters say its pointless and stupid because they had never heard of it . ive never done it ,

some of us have. got caught ferreting by a young farmer on some land and was with hes mate ,and tried to be jack the lad and asked hes mate if he wanted the rabbit i just caught ,hes mate said no luckley i told him ill wait for the ferret and then go as he walked away another rabbit bolted .i collected my nets up and the other two rabbits he hadnt even seen and promised my self il be back on a full moon and do the biz just got to make sure hes not out shooting

it was on the nights that were to cold and frosty to go with lamp,and it was magic mate.

but like your dad we were on spots that we shouldent have been.

we spent hours waiting for them farm house lights to go out,then got out off the hedge and done a bit

it was me that answered that other post about night time ferreting. all the young bucks were saying its no good , waste of time. of course easy to say when you have never done it.

 

night ferreting has been going on for hundreds of years and aint sommat new that warrener did on his film or brinded wrote about in a mag .

 

i have done it countless times in the past , and you can do it on those nights you would otherwise not be out,

 

also done it in places where there is light polution, next to a power station was another faveroute, never used bells.

 

get out there and give it a go lads open park land and a big moon

you know ,i havent ferreted at night for ages! when i was a lad we used to do it all the time! there was a group of us that all lived on the same council estate and went to the same school,occo,bert,gubby and myself would often be out on a school night poaching,sometimes it was trout sometimes eels occasionally game birds,but our favoritewas going up onto 'the old castle' old sarum near salisbury,it was and still is infested with rabbits,never once needed to dig the rabbits just kept bolting ! we only had 20 nets between us so more escaped than we ever got! on the way home we allways passed burts nans house and we would leave a couple on her door. good old days.
