How Long Is Meat Okay For

Just thrown in a young pheasant for my two four month old kits.

 

How long this time of year is it okay to leave with them for? Should I expect them to eat the lot including the bones?

Impossible to say.

 

It will completely depend on fly activity, heat, wind, direct sunlight.

 

Essentially anything between 8 hours and 3 days depending on conditions.

As mentioned you just need to use common sense. Bad meat is fairly obvious (smell, look, fly eggs, maggots etc) if the meat smells ok and has no fly eggs it's ok. Adult ferrets will often eat the bones as well, I watch mine and often hear a cruch as the break a bone or crush a skull!

I tend to feed mine just as dusk is coming in then take anything out that's left in the morning, it seems to work for me

It cold at night now so unless its really warm during the day it should last till the strip it bare
