Greyman 28,798
do they prey on cats? it would have to be a pretty dopey cat to get caught by a badger but they are an opportunistic hunter and if they stumbled across one that was fecked or not paying attention I would think they might take one but very rarely, I do know of a non excistant animal that seems to, and an area in the Cotswolds that has been having lots of sightings has also had a growing number of domestics and a few dogs disappearing lately ? If you believe in that sort of stuff

pesky1972 5,325
Doubt they'd prey on cats. They'd eat road kill cats though I reckon.

If you believe in that sort of stuff what do u think it is? are you loosing numbers of domestic cats from a specific area,? Don't forget you do get people that specifically target them with anti freeze but they normally come home or are found nearby to die

Greyman 28,798
Don't forget foxes kill cats. really ? we get lots of town foxes round here and I have a few bits of film from my own garden were the local Tom comes along and f**k,s mr fox out of the food bowl they also take it in turn to feed this was happening nearly every night in my back garden last year, though I must say the fox,s I pick up out of town are enormous in comparison to the urban ones so maybe a different diet as well though I do think there would be lots of risk of injury in taking on a cat as they fight like feck especially if trapped or cornered
peterhunter86 8,627
Don't forget foxes kill cats.. Probably young kittens, but I don't think they eat cat's my dog killed a feral cat last year in a place full of Foxe's and I left it along a ditch thinking they would eat it but nothing touched it not even magpies or buzzards. forest of dean redneck 11,686
I can't find it but there was a video or cctv camera pic of a fox killing a fluffy decent sized cat on a farm or cottage front stone yard.
jiggy 3,209
I read in an old shooting magazine where a fox stalked a cat sitting up top of a fencing stake then jumped up and knocked the cat off and killed it. It depends how hungry they are I suppose or if they have young nearby. I seen a badger and fox fighting at the mouth of an earth when I was a young lad. The fox was hell bent on entering earth but badger was in entrance blocking it. I thought at the time when the fox was so aggressive that it had cubs in there but badger was claiming the earth. There was full battle and fur flying so I think the fox wouldn't look for that challenge unless something was wrong.
beast 1,884
I have seen cats shift foxes off food many many times and never seen a cat back down to a fox. I suspect a fox would eat roadkill or maybe kittens but it would be a rare thing for a fox to kill a healthy adult cat I think
sandymere 8,263
Cost to gain ratio would be very high in a fox killing a cat, the cost of an infected bite limiting hunting versus the meal.
