Flea Collars? Are They Good And Which Ones?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for recommendations for flea collars. I'm fed up with the spot on treatments only lasting for a week before the dogs it hang again. We do the kennels and bedding etc but live in a place with a lot of game and the dogs are out and about alot, I'm guessing they are picking up new fleas as fast as we are killing them. Will collars be any better?

did you try using advocate spot on you can pick it up from the vets supplies. A lot of the stuff in pet stores is useless but advocate is very good and will stay good for months and has built in wormer too.

Usually use front line, advocate is prescription only isn't it? I'd happily give it a try if it worked and stayed working

the vet should just sell it over the counter to you if you walk in without having to get the dog booked in for appointment.

I use bravecto , 1 tablet lasts three months, anything bites it dies. Best treatment I've found by far.

Its not cheap ! Not sure how true it is, but heard some dogs died from it ?

Never seen a flea on mine, been using Advocate each month and latterly Prinovox (same as Advocate), dog almost 3 years old.

It's certainly not cheap, it's effective though, lasts for 3 months and stops the missus worrying about kids getting ticks from the dogs. I remember when spot on treatment was supposed to be killing dogs, I've not heard of dogs dying from it myself, Atb Joe

I got one of these for my terrier 17 months ago for ticks. I'd never had much issue with ticks with this dog until we moved to this house & he ended up covered in them after spending the day outside. Put this collar on him in the springtime of last year, no ticks immediately & throughout the summer.......removed collar in the Autumn of last year for work......

A year later, never replaced collar, but still not one tick on him. Ive never seen fleas on him. He lives in the house at night, but spends all day outside on grass & running through long grass out the back of my house, with plenty of other stock nearby....

It can't be coincidence, surely? When I next see another tick or flea on him I'll buy another collar ;-)

They are expensive, but money well spent for me.
