Bushing Spaniel

Recommended Posts

I'm after a spaniel pup to bring into my pack. Would preferably be after a sprocker but also open to hear if anyone has any springers or cockers. All I ask is that both parents are working well. I'm in the midlands but willing to travel where needed. I know there plenty on internet but you also get a lot that don't tell the truth about there dogs working so thought I'd try here first. Not really interested in anything over 16 weeks as want to be able to train it myself

Hi bud I've a Springer and a sprocker not for sale not sure how well you know these types but my sprocker and others I've seen are very strong headed little blighters. Mine has good days where he won't put a foot wrong and others where he dose what he wants when he wants. Springer is spot on every time on the button ..... if go Springer if you can in my view stay away from ritex lines and go for a badger court line if possible they seem to be more level headed ? in my view

My pals got a pup left out of a litter he bred mom and dad are both working goes on beats and dogging in regular it's about 10weeks old now I think he's had the line of these for years and for what you want it's ideal can't really go wrong for knocking out cover

I like bushing with terriers but it's handy to have a dog that's mute or doesn't open up like a box of firecrackers if your in a place that you don't really want to be drawing to much attention to yourself ?

If I was in the maket for a bushing dog I'd choose a spaniel over a strate terrier any day who wants a high strung yappey terrier that has the potential to drop to ground on pigs anyway as a bushing dog sounds like hard work with terriers

think I'm to lazy to be digging to terriers that have a death wish on pigs I don't think I'd like to have to explain when I'm pulled up on the hot land I'm over why I'm tampering with a pig set I like to keep moving forward An not be in the facility to long if you get my drift

i agree totally with you on the moving forward and not staying in the versinity to long that's why it's handy to have a dog that doesn't stay on stuff or try's to bolt sometimes a lurcher can get in as just much trouble as a terrier can believe me I've been in more moody situations then I can remember

seen some real good springers over the years, that beating, bushing, and a peg dog, and one of the guns used his dog wild fowling as well, this was fair sized strong male . the gun had labs as well , but i think he liked to use the springer most  dont know what lines it was , this was in 80s . i did have a chat few times with the owner , and i always thought spaniels were hard work compared to labs, but this bloke said just lots of patience is the key, like with any breed of dog, but as you say some lines are prob more hard work than others .

My Springer has a dash of ritex bred by a keeper up north Devon and he's as mad as a box of frogs but will go on a beating line all day and still need a walk at the end of it they are good dogs but you hit the nail on the head patience is the key and once it's done keep up refreshing the training while it's working. I'm sort of hoping to put my sprocker to work with my lurcher once he's old enough just because I can't trust him enough on the beating line.

My father in law is a spaniel man but he says they've changed so much now it's hard to come by a good strong big solid spaniel so he's not getting any more. I've got him thinking lurcher now ??
