One of the places I do monthly pest control on has a small river/stream that runs through it fed by the Thames so when I go on a Saturday I put the crayfish traps in and the lad that shoots for me on

Now, while the water is up in temperature, for bait I buy a cheap cat food foil tin thing, and pierce it a few times. But anything meaty will do.   Ive not trapped them seriously in my own place for

Is there a certain time of year that's best to catch them? I chucked a trap in the river when I first moved up here in March, but caught nothing for 3 days straight, so lifted the trap. Is it worth me dropping it again now do you think? What bait you using socks?

I've just moved up to yorshire and found a place with some signal crayfish. I've not got any traps I've just been turning stones over. Atb

Which river mate ? Knock yourself up some traps they're dead easy to make. Tested wire against plastic a while back and the plastic outfished the metal.

I seem to recall that the water temp has to be above 10°C for them to be at their most active......winter through to early spring is a nonstarter.

Ive not trapped them seriously in my own place for 2 years, but best in one trap was 20 in a day.

'They' reckon to control the population you should throw the big ones back as they are cannibalistic! I threw them in boiling salted water.

Some of the trout I've had lately had cray claws in the gut good luck to them if it means bigger river fish.

If you just want a few for the pot walk up the river at night with a landing net and a lamp you'll find them sat in the edge easily caught ??

Had them in local lake was a nightmare to fish as soon as bait hit water they would be on it.

Took a couple of years till the carp took a fancy to them, fish were coming out in top nick and weight.

We used to trap them liquidize them whole and make boilies from them.
