Paint Or Varnish For Ferret Box

I have just received my new ferret box and want to know what would be best to paint the box outside fence paint or a good tin of varnish?

Never even painted my old box, But the hutch is done in Sadolin. Swear by it myself.

Two coats of what ever gloss I have spare in the shed, but not Magnolia.

I do mine in linseed oil ones a year

Linseed oil here too...

 

And i staple a rubber matt to the bottom to stop water ingress through putting down on the wet grass.

I used three good coats of shed and fence paint. Job done!

Sadolin durable wood stain.

 

This type of product is micro pourus allowing water out but not in.

 

If you paint with a gloss or normal varnish you just seal the water in an the box will rot.

 

I give my boxes a good clean end of season quick rub down with wire wool and 1 coat of sadolin and boxes are like new.

 

I have used sadolin for years on my wooden windows and 23 years later they are still in A1 condition.
