They did have a permit. So did the left for their counter-demonstration. They (the right) were bussing in people from the surrounding states and the driver of the car drove 8 hours from Ohio, before the extra few feet that killed the girl and injured the others. He's currently charged with 2nd-degree murder. Obviously, this will play out over many weeks while we find out what happened. Yes, the left were bussing them in too. The fact that's being overlooked here is that they were protesting a decision (to remove the statue) that had been democratically voted on by the people of Charlottesville. Trump highlighted the violence on both sides. I actually agree with him on this one. Protestors using violence to suppress the first amendment. The problem was his timing, his tact, and his terminology. If you want to instantly condemn terrorism you have to be consistent. You have the right to legally and peacefully protest a democratic decision without being attacked.

That shouldn't be extreme, but just look at the reaction it's received and have a look for any precedent in the west in recent years. I don't think it's sunk in to a lot of peoples heads yet just how much of a big deal that is. Edited August 18, 2017 by neems

The city then ruled 3-2 that the statue should be removed. Southern towns have higher accountability from public officials.
