Popular Post Squeamish5 309
Shoal of mackerel along the shore the other morning. None of my pics did it justice, even with a bit of tweaking, but it was a delight to see. Shoulda gone in closer but didn't want to risk dropping my phone in.

neil cooney 10,416
That's brilliant. All the Mackerel fishing I've ever done I've never seen a shoal so close to shore. Nice one.
Squeamish5 309
Never mind the phone, what about the rod ?Never mind a rod, I reckon it would have been hard to miss one or two with a toasting fork. (And the previous day, whitebait had been just throwing themselves onto the sandy beach).Ended up being given 20 odd, on a day I had no fridge or freezer space, and offered more the next day.

PINNACLE 2,297
I drove 250 miles today to try and get a picture of a Hobby (I did) but I think 150 miles for a bag of Mackerel would have been a better use of time, Fresh out of the sea on a BBQ or in a pan with a bit of butter, YUM. Kent here we come, I can tell by the pebbles where to start.

Malt 379
That's brilliant. All the Mackerel fishing I've ever done I've never seen a shoal so close to shore. Nice one.Years ago a massive shoal came in ahead of a storm after the whitebait, and they were jumping on the beach in their thousand. People were walking across the South beach in Tenby collecting them by the bag full.

Old boy I know says he remembers once seeing whitebait, followed by mackerel, followed by dolphins. Used to know it as Dengemarsh Beach, 4 of us camped on the beach for 3 nights in October 1977. Fcuking cold was an understatement, couldn't get warm at all so no real kip, ended up shattered but I did get an 8lb cod biggest fish of the session.
