Atb dc In other words it takes a dogman to own one. It would be a sad day if the wheaten ever ended up in the hands of the messers and posers , so lets just hope it stays a specialist breed. 6 Quote Link to post
dogmandont 9,805
Same as that Neil, I'd rather see a few in the right hands than a lot in the wrong. 1 Quote Link to post
Lusitano 294
i don't see many in the wrong hands... intact very few men are breeding them how they should be. Quote Link to post

That's the thing, they have never been a common breed but have always been one of the gamest, which proves that a breed doesn't need big numbers to survive as workers, it just needs good men behind it. 2 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
I was talking to a chap yesterday, and he goes to Ireland a lot, the lads over there only rate the Wheaton in a lurcher he says, how do the lads on this forum rate the cross? Interested to find out Ive never owned a Wheaton cross until recently, then i did not own it long.My lad still as his and at just under 6 months of age i can state with a little conviction i should have owned one a few years earlier. Its never going to work on long gallops, its never going to do half of what ive grown accustomed to with my type of lurcher and thats a fact, yet feck me the bitch as balls,it has brains and it as a nose and a fecking attitude,if its attitude, nose and brains can be utilised her balls will be an advantage.Ive never witnessed a pup so young be so adventurous and commited. Teckers 661
I think their a cracking cross tbh, great coat, bags of drive, hearts of lions and a good nose, which ticks the boxes in a lurcher for me, I'f all goes well I'm useing a Wheaton/grey on this bitch when she breaks down next 7 Quote Link to post
hjckcff 1,738
Is there much difference between the Wheaten, and the Irish terriertotally different shapes in head/body wise and temperments-folks bang on about wheatens being dog aggressive... Everyone I've been around has been good as gold, only interested in the job at hand. If a dogs nasty with others then that's down to a bad owner imo. Atb dc i would have to disagree with you. some dogs are just downright twats. and no amount of socialising will change them . first image is Darcey. quarter wheaten. second is ozzy. first cross. 12 Quote Link to post
