Advice On Damaged Bottle Threads Please Gents

Recommended Posts

A few days ago I sold one of my bottles, a 3ltr 300 bar, in test.

The said bottle originally came with a gun I bought, although I have been using it for a few months.

The buyer says he took it to get filled, perfectly normal, the shop (Ronnie sunshines) informed him the bottle had been dropped (suspected dropped) on the valve and the threads were damaged, to a point the bottle could not be filled with the original valve, so he bought and fitted a new valve, now has asked me to cover the cost of said valve.

Under normal circumstances I would have said instantly a problem occurred I would refund him and go and pick the bottle back up, but I can't help but wonder

1) why he didn't ring or message me as soon as he thought there was a problem

2) why he still hasn't rung or messaged me explaining what has happened and how to rectify it, yet posted on Facebook saying he wanted me to pay for the new valve.

3) just how the heck can valve threads be damaged in the first place, when the valve, gauge and bottle have no damage or marks on them.

4) how has the bottle been filled previously with no apparent issues, considering I know full well the bottle has sustained no damage, knocks, bangs or been dropped on its head between the last fill and selling it.

I am considering options at present, I have tried ringing Ronnies but didn't find out until they had closed today, I don't and won't rip anyone off, but I also don't like anyone trying it on with me either, and I'm feeling the latter on this occasion.

The chance of me giving his money back and taking the bottle back has passed due to him buying and fitting a new valve. I should pay for the new valve, but can't help but feel something's not right with the whole issue, I have condition photos showing it all looked fine and I have been using it for a few months.

Opinions please fellas.

Rabid. Chances of that kind of damage are almost 0 per cent. I've been deep sea diving and handling bottles on and off boats, filling stations and the like. Our guys chucked these 3 litre 'pony' bottles about like bottles of lemonade and they never sustained damage. My thoughts are that someone wants a freebie and as such I would tell them to go to hell. Hopefully you were paid PayPal . Only my opinion by the way but I would say that in all the years I've been diving, I've never encountered damaged threads. Jok.

Doesn't sound right because if the bottle thread was damaged, a new valve wouldn't fit either.

I did wonder that myself walshie, after lots of internet trawling it would seem the bottle is steel, the valve is brass so softer, hence the valves always go first, but from reading up it seems over filling and manafacture faults are the reasons.

I am totally at a loss to think of a reason it could be damaged, especially with no damage on the bottle, valve or gauge, I have my suspicions that ronnies will say there was visible damage when they got it in for filling, I can prove none on it when sold !

sold as seen.

forget about it.

No I can't do that, and I won't do that, if it's a genuine issue I don't mind sorting it out, it's having my pants pulled down I won't stand for.

Trust me Rabid. I've a lot of experience and this almost 100 percent did not happen. Tell him/her to shove it where it don't shine. Jok.

Thanks jok, if I can be 100% sure that's exactly what will happen.

But did he damaged the bottle . Don't pay him a penny

That's the million dollar question, I can prove the condition it was handed over in as I had just finished taking pics of it when he walked over.

All you can do is phone the shop to see if it was damaged , but then if he did drop it himself your no further forward

I will be if they say visible damage on it as I can prove it wasn't.
