GARY 76 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Share Posted December 20, 2007 i worked a half cross hancock bitch for ten years she was brilliant rabbiting dog took fox,muntjac and roe pre-ban shes thirteen now and enjoying retirement. im now working a three quater cross from hancock shes four and does everything i want. the secret with collie crosses is to enter them slowely to charlie once they are entered they are demons.dont worry about the p ss being taken out of you because you got a hancock dog your freezer will always be full. dont worry about the p ss being taken out of you because you got a hancock dog your freezer will always be full. Yes mate i agree, but i see alot of people with Hancocks dogs now going onto new X's as it's been a long time since he bred out of workers I know what you are saying but I thought (perhaps wrongly) that the dogs were all ex track dogs and the collies were from working (sheparding, not hunting, but working all the same) dogs. ie the collies are from working parents. Obviously if the keeps a half cross for stud the parents dont work, but they are from working / racing lines? It not like he's breeding from show collies (as far as I know) Quote Link to post

Simoman 110 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Share Posted December 20, 2007 You pay your money and take a chance, but for me if I was going to get a lurcher to work then I would choose a pup from a sire and dam that had been tested and not found wanting, its difficult enough to choose a winner without starting off with the disadvantage of breeding from non workers. When I buy a dog it stays with me for life so I don't want to kennel a cur. I visited his kennels over 15 years ago and found him polite and friendly but his pups wouldn't be for me.
