beast 1,884
Mate of mine has wallabies meerkat marmosets loads of exotic rodents like giant pouched rats and stuff. I looked after a skunk for him a few years ago and we went out for the night. When we got home the Mrs looked through the window and started screaming "we've been burgled " so I looked in and the whole room was trashed. Fecking skunk had got out of its cage and wrecked the whole house Pulled the budgie cage off the shelf luckily it was OK. Wouldn't want one myself?
Jamie m 668
I was thinking of gettingba tortoise just for to keep younin the garden. When i was a kid i had one. In winter kept it in a box in garage while it hibernated. Now i don't understand all this pish about vivarium and heat lamps. Wish i remember the type it was i had as a kid. No special lamps or fancy housing. Fairly certain it would have been a Hermans or a Horsefield,if you buy a hermans now it has to have papers with it ,to prove it was captive bred.I think you would struggle to get one to hibernate through the winter now due to the mild temperatures, hence the vivs which create a constant climate, preventing them hibernating(A lot never made it through the winter) I kept both species uptil about 10 yrs ago,and also some Leopard tortoises which get really tame but grow very large, very quickly lol .The biggest problem was keeping them clean, the leopards must have pissed a pint each time and with the heat of the viv it soon smells if not constantly cleaned.I think the last Hermans hatchling I bought was about £160,right little character ,spent all day humping anything it could find lol We've got a hermans hibernates of its own accord . If I put it in a box it won't settle . Just wanders round the house till it finds a good spot ? . A lot of folk put them in a fridge for three months as the temperature is constant , 3 months is the recommended these days ,

downsouth 7,299
What's exotic?what do you think?Dunno reptiles used to be but I reckon their more popular than small furries now an once you got the viv, probably cheaper to keep than them. But in past we have had skunks,African Pygmy hedgehogs, skinny pigs(bald guinea pigs) tortoises and parrots from an eclectus to a macaw. Was the macaw very noisy to keep ? Mrs on at me for one.It was loud but didn't screech often, the eclectus screeched loudly and often. Consider a hand reared grey ,they don't take up so much room and great talkers. Cheer Had greys and cockatoos they were far too noisy but seriously tame and clever greys are ok but she's had them before in is now on for one of them macaws. Me I'll stick to me goldies and mules lol ?? Had a Macaw. He was great all the time he was out his cage getting attention. If I took my eyes off of him for 5minutes whilst he was out he would wreck everything his beak would fit around and if I got in from work and didn't let him out within 10 minutes he would scream so loud you could hear him 100yds down the road.
