dodger 2,806
Odd one fair enough maybe but as others have said about the hard ground, it may of rained but no were near enough to soak into the baked ground, young dog, temps way to high, middle of summer, pregnant gear, bad craic alround really but upto you if that's how you want to continue in the game but don't think you gained out in the long run, also been mentioned of a past dog pulling up at hedges etc, well summer even early season can be the worst time for this especially for a young dog due to all the cover that's about.. Phil Lloyd 10,738
I get the drift of folk, who are either, 'for or against', the running of quarry during what might be termed, the off season,..and can understand both camps.. Obviously,.I have my own opinion regarding such matters,..but it is only that, .an opinion. My mind harks back to a conversation I had with the Author, the late Ted Walsh... We were discussing my own nighttime activities,.. and there was a difference of opinion.... Being sensible fellows, we both came to the conclusion that, "What a man does with his lurchers,.. is strictly a matter for his own conscience"... I have tried to live my life,.. believing this to be the case... Edited August 1, 2017 by Phil Lloyd 3 Quote Link to post

And we all lived happily ever after, some folk work their charges and respect the game and the seasons, others have respect that is secondary to their egoistic outlook on hunting with a lurcher.Id not own or run a lurcher if it meant i had to put my ego before the quarry the mutt pursued.respect is a word many on here have issue with. 2 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
At least he no out killings hare this time of year rabbits are a pest They are a pest species N and need controlling,id rather control their numbers when the have been allowed to re-generate their numbers and in that way i will be able to control them not only this season but a few years down the line.I take my lad and grandson to land that i have hunted for decades and i hope they take their kin to the same land when im to aged to follow.Muller them when they are breeding and you muller your future hunting. 2 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Thing is lurcherlad , you can't have your cake and eat it.... Your business what you do with your dogs, but if it's only posts saying "well done lad" you might want to wait until September , Some will have an opinion on running mid summer ,and they will air it. Yes rabbits are a pest, but I think it's up the the fella that owns the land to decide that Quote Link to post
mC HULL 14,162
Foolish in so many ways as been said and the little niggles your dogs pick up now will show up later in the season Quote Link to post

Morton, Since you mentioned the word respect.Would you say you respected other people`s opinions on here and didn`t want to always have the last word? 1 Quote Link to post

Morton, Since you mentioned the word respect.Would you say you respected other people`s opinions on here and didn`t want to always have the last word? Hang me for being opinionated on a site that looks for opinions.Ive nothing but respect for a good lurcher and have more respect for the owner of such an animal,i don,t have much time for the rest and will vent my opinion as i see fit.The majority of folk on here that own lurchers are feckless nuggets if we are to be honest, the small minority i salute for keeping it sane at times.I should have said Lloydy is one of the good uns on here but that does not make it as said that i always agree with his opine.
