just-A-snap 1,269
Unless a minimum price is stated for each and every kind of alcoholic drink then we have all been hear before. Prices go up and then come down again. All other commodities and utilities can if law is enacted then be challenge as being to high or low. Someone is looking for Votes or to make a profit on the black market. Not enforceable in my opinion. All the very best

All the very best As I understand it, what's being proposed is a minimum price of 50p per unit of alcohol.....your average pub pint has 2 units, 2 litres of supermarket cider around 8. Your cheap bottle of wine would be minimally priced at about £4.70, under these proposals, because the unit price would and added to the retail price !

My comment still stands, all pricing will be up to be challenge as there will be loop holes the size of, well think of a very big size . All the very best

ChrisJones 7,975
The number of UK smokers is down to around 15% now...... I might suggest that a lot of those who have stopped smoking have simply been priced out ? Are those figures drawn from legitimate sales of tobacco? The official figures show a dip in consumption but it won't account for the illegal trade in smokes, which we all know goes up every time an MP gets out the tax hammer. It's all far too intrusive. I agree pissheads are taking up valuable NHS resources, but then so are foreigners who have never paid a penny in N.I. contributions. What's worse? I don't disagree with any of the above, just thought I'd offer something to the debate. As the NHS buckles under the weight of an aging population, migrants who historically haven't paid their dues, and all the fat lazy fuckers who've got sick notes for health conditions brought about by their piggish eating habits, smoking and drinking it's inevitable that there will be scrutiny, criticism and action taken to prevent those who don't need to be sick in the first place finding there way into an NHS bed. Education clearly doesn't work.., what's left? How much additional tax do smokers and drinkers pay, over those that don't do either? I believe enough tax money is paid into the NHS. The biggest threat to them is complete mismanagement. Tax this, tax that, won't solve the treatment issue. While I agree that prevention is better than cure taxing people's liberties is sticking a plaster on a sucking chest wound, besides that drinking should be given a tax cut under 'emotional wellness!' This is purely about increasing government revenue for bureaucrats to spend.
