Doesn't Butter His Parsnips

Recommended Posts

It was announced today that the owner of Bloomindales, in Hawes North Yorkshire, has sold up. The second-hand bookstore has been the centre of many complaints because of the attitude of the shop's proprietor, Steve Bloom.

Bloom, who is a personal hero of mine, gained his reputation as "Britain's Rudest Bookseller" after calling one of his customers a "pain in the arse."

Steve charges a 50p entrance fee to his bookstore, to stop time-wasters, and continually argued with his customers who wrote a myriad of complaints to the local council about his attitude. Needless to say, the pressure is too much and Mr Bloom is now selling up and moving on.

It truly is the end of an era. The British shopkeeper being replaced by a watered down, fakely pleasant, have a nice day, American knock off. We'll miss you, Steve! :)

You do realise that about 70% of THL members will have no idea about parsnip buttering.

That would be worth the 50p entrance fee alone! I did say it was the end of an era! :D

There's an old school bakery I use that gives you good old fashioned British Customer service, if their food wasn't so amazingly good they'd go out of business IMO! They're ok if you're regular, but its a small place and if there's someone new 'umming and 'arring at the counter they get told to be quick about it in no uncertain terms! :D

These are traditions worth preserving along with a quarter of blackcurrant and licorice!

Shame we couldn't get them both together to manage a hotel in Torquay.
