Bobtheferret 1,260
I think the key is what you are doing with the dogs and what they are capable off. My best dog can't do a hard nights lamping due to past injuries but is still a class ferreting dog, so I have him for ferreting and a younger dog that lamps and occasional ferreting. Just got a pup as concerned the older dogs injures may catch up with him and what a pup to bring on whilst I still have him. I always like at least two as often through a hard season one of them has stitches or needs resting up and it means you still have a dog to run. Don't see the need to have 4/5 dogs all under 3 years old though you'll struggle to do them justice and even if you do they'll all retire together. Quote Link to post

Dinosaurs 2,127
Mr Wilkes. Yeah they were bathed & groomed every week but fed on tinned food with cheapest mixer he could get. But as never worked stamina etc wasnt an issue. Lovely looking dogs though. & if you didnt know him then they took everything. Long time before the ban. Atb Quote Link to post
jcm 2,327
Iv got two dogs one is around 7 and still has a few more season's in him and a young dog to start this season. The older one won't be doing as much lamping this year but I'll mainly be using him for mooching during the day and ratting and the young dog if he proves his keep will be my main lamping dog.
