PINNACLE 2,297
I had a trip out West yesterday and popped into RSPB reserve Ham Wall. I don't really like sitting in big wooden hides but suffered it for a while. Saw plenty of birds including Marsh Harriers, Hobby, Great Crested, Grebe with young, Grey Heron, Little Egret, Buzzard a Barn Owl and others but most were too far away to take decent photos. I did get these two though both of birds I had not seen before. I'd be the opposite. There's a good chance those Egrets will get more common, especially if they follow their smaller cousin, but a Bittern could end up being a once in a lifetime experience.
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
I liked the egret best... (wonder why 2 different rings?)The small ring is country specific ,the lager above the knee is an international ring so it can be identified as a possible migrant . Did a bit for national trust recently and I asked that same question .WE have them and the smaller version nesting in a heronry on a nearby lake .
