Traditional Lurcher

When some one says its a Traditional lurcher .what your thoughts on this???

That is measured only on what it can do and NOT what it is, or how its bred....

Basically, I believe that the phrase, Traditional Lurcher, is a bit of an antiquated nomenclature.

 

Most enthusiasts are no longer,.. traditional,....the Quartz Halogen Spotlight changed that.

 

Correspondingly,..the work of the roustabout working dog, has also changed alongside it.

Like many hunting men of my generation, I started out with mongrelised 'bits and pieces', however, when I became keen on the Hare Coursing scene and required a more athletic and physical critter,.I abandoned my collie based curs and was dragged to the endless flat fields, alongside everyone else.

I felt that I needed something better, bigger, faster, stronger, 'gamer'....and slowly but surely, I became wed to the contemporary specialist types,.purpose-bred animals that could catch and handle, whatever the blinding white light fell upon,...and for a while, I was happy,...or thought that I was...

 

Now that I am old,...my thoughts harken back to the early days, when, in truth,..the ancestry of a running dog, just didn't seem to matter.

If it caught game,..who fecking cares who it's Ma and Pa were

 

However, I genuinely believe that the traditional lurcher is still with us,...he lies deep down within our psyche, he will visit most men, sooner or later.

Some would say the traditional type would be the little whippet ,bearing in mind ''twas the poor who needed to scrounge and thieve game ,and was not the little whipp probably had many cloaked of clothing they certainly did when I was a youngster ,tradition ta me his how one goes and does his work ,the tools are the same and the little whips were round long before any herding type xs greyhound and these were that would have been in the impoverished homes of the game thieves.herding types were around But in th towns and cities they would have been scarce now little whips snacks grewxs call em what yas like been round since time .atb bunnys.

A traditional lurcher simply a working dog in camouflage. If it looks like it is a killing machine at a distance then it is not in my opinion a traditional lurcher.

In my opinion a lot of today’s lurchers look they could kill a herd of wildebeests for fun. They seem to shout out kill kill kill.... I can kill ‘em all. Which of course to be fair to them they can.

Traditional bred lurcher for me is a work bred super mongrel consisting of collie/greyhound x whippet greyhound,deerhound to a bedlington x greyhound that's what recently bred my self that will do me lovely for my needs day/night bred to be a master of none but just honest bred to work whats available to run.

To me its a running dog with a rough coat long enough to hide its physic.

Camouflaged coat so it hard to see

As long as it fills the pot don't really matter how its bred.

Not like my dog although their were some real hairbags in his litter
