kenj 131
On my latest permission in a park, I am limited to air rifle only between dusk and dawn, which has meant that I am shooting rabbits with my 28 lb FAC Career 707 carbine at ranges under 10 yards out to 50 yards with 21 grain Bisley Magnums zeroed at 30 yards. This has needed some quick thinking regarding hold over and hold under with head shots at the various ranges and have missed some absolute sitters. With the Bisleys running low, I am considering switching to the shorter and lighter 14.6 grain H&N Field Trophys, that I use with my 12 lb Webley Viper. Before making the fiddly adjustment to the Career pellet stop, I wondered if anyone else has used these flatter flying pellets through an FAC rifle? Quote Link to post
philpot 4,998
I saw this on another forum, I was going to suggest you try a tin of Air Arms Field Heavy, 18gr. I used them in my Rapid .22 fac at 29fpe so similar power and they performed superbly, deffo the best pellets I tried and far better than H&N FTT in that gun. I have to get them from Uttings as no shops in my area sell them but Uttings are good to deal with. http://www.uttings.co.uk/p109224-air-arms-diabolo-field-plus-heavy-22-5-52-pellets-x-250-aifp5-52/#.WV_m3fnysdU Phil Quote Link to post
kenj 131
Thanks for the info Phil. I did wonder whether the H&Ns would hold up to the FAC power. The Air Arms Heavy sound like a good compromise at 18 gr. The Bisleys are a very accurate pellet in the Career, but very loopy at range. I was out last night and have literally only a few left. Clicking on Uttings now. Quote Link to post
kenj 131
I've just read the Uttings reviews. Lots of damaged skirts in the tin. Never had that with Bisleys. Maybe I'll have to keep looking. Quote Link to post
just-A-snap 1,269
I've just read the Uttings reviews. Lots of damaged skirts in the tin. Never had that with Bisleys. Maybe I'll have to keep looking. The reviews on the Air Arms Field Heavy from some who use Uttings are just someone else's point of view. Do you like your Career 707 carbine FAC? If yes then I would say that you do not give a flying what others may think about it. Yes? All the very best Edited July 8, 2017 by just-A-snap Quote Link to post
stop.end 4,079
I had a career 707 for a while.. i couldnt get on with the rifle at all.. very heavy if your on a walk about but a very powerful tool. I found bisleys to be ok but wavered at any real distance..so i switched to premier 18gr pellet seemed to be a better pellet..hope you find what suits you best and have plenty of good shooting. kenj 131
When I bought the Career second hand a dozen years ago, the PO had the full size rifle and a carbine for sale. Comparing the two, the carbine is a better handling rifle, although it takes less charge, but this has not proved a disadvantage, giving around 20 full power shots per charge, which is more than enough for a couple of hours bunny bashing. It is much lighter than my CZ 452 HMR Varmint, which is a real muscle builder. I think the 18 gr pellet is the way to go on this variable permission, where I'll be shooting at close range under buildings one minute, then over open ground at cricket pitch diggers the next. Hmmm, strange, I have had quite a few tins from Uttings and not one had an issue with deformed skirts. I did have a couple of tins where there was damage to the skirts a couple of years ago and swore I would not buy them again BUT I now use AA in all three cals .177, .22 and .25 with nothing but praise. charlie caller 3,654
Mate get a sample pack of HanN Baraccuda hunter extreme, 19 grain, if your rifle likes them, you wont want another hunting pellet, only used them in .177, but boy do they pack a punch, 1 Quote Link to post
kenj 131
Just ordered 200 Barracuda Extreme from Uttings. Had no problems with the H&N Field Trophy in my Webley Viper, so I'll give the brand a go. I like the look of the cross hollow point, 19 gr., good for over 30 lb and classed as long range, which get me out to my 50 yards. They arrive Tuesday, just in time for a field test. Thanks all for the feedback. 1 Quote Link to post
