Guest Frank
Get a pup at 6 to 8 weeks from where you can see both parents work. If you like their running style and the dogs are well known, dont delay in booking a pup. Good luck. Quote Link to post

Paul in North Lincs 15
Good to hear you are getting thebug again mate!!!! for an all rounder ........as mentioned the above will be perfect. Depending on the terraine you will be working.......in close quarters..small padocks and small field.......then a smaller lurcher for more explosive speed would be ideal ......beddy wippet, with a splash of collie in.....for large arable land perhaps something abit racer with more averages of grey in it...... I have a greyhound bull cross...with only a splash of bull in...only 242 TTS quick as stinkl...brilliant on rabbits....and enough fuel in the tank for something bigger should the need arise. Good luck with finding a dog... Personally I would get a pup....................I always find it very rewarding see you pup start to work after months of training  When it all comes together..........its magic. Get a pup now....and it will be ready for a run next season  Quote Link to post

gtomo 4
I think with a collie grey you cant go wrong mate and they will take the bigger game to mate if you get a good one Edited December 19, 2007 by gtomo Quote Link to post
poacher9991 10
GET A PUP MATE OLDER DOGS ARE MUCH MORE HARD WORK I RECKON YOU CAN BRING A PUP UP HOW YOU WANT Quote Link to post
mistwalker 0
I'd say a collie cross, 1/2 or 3/4 would both do for what you want and they'll take the training a lot easier than most others. Beddy crosses are spot on for rabbits too, but can be a bit strong willed and not always ideal if you've not trained one before/ for a while (imo). Or you could just blow the lot out the water and get a pup from someone who's bred a proven worker to a proven worker. Whatever, you end up being owned by - good luck and welcome back Quote Link to post
shotgunwilly 177
if your looken a good nights lamping you will need somthing thats going to last a good night, for talk sake a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie are known to blow up you dont want to be carrying an oxygen tank around with you all night. The dog im lamping at the moment is saluki x irish terrer she is of one of the best hunting strains in Ireland she is retired from hares at 6 (she well still deck a hare) and she will kill you 20 to 30 rabbits in a good a night no problem.
