scotty12 1,884
Fieldwork carried out in the West Lothian area Yesterday, after a possible sighting from earlier in the week. Met with the spotter and her dad, lovely people... Two big black cats roughly the size of a Labrador. One which had a Seagull in its mouth. The spotter said it looked like they were having a few seconds stand off (possibly for the catch) and then one loped left and the other right with the gull, into a treed area behind the sighting area. With all the lovely weather we’ve been having it was near impossible to find any type print that was in any good condition, human too. The fall from the trees also made it hard. Nothing to report apart from meeting a lovely family, a great walk through an unexplored area for me and this wee staghorn mushroom Further fieldwork will be carried out

scotty12 1,884
Midlothian has been an area of activity for several decades. Today I followed up with meeting a witness and conducting fieldwork further to an unusual incident only last night where his dog chased a large black cat which then made physical contact with him. The location shall naturally remain undisclosed. As he let his dog out into a park area behind his house, his dog appeared to bolt off around and into a small wooded area as though chasing something. A few seconds later, a large black cat came bolting out of the woods and was heading straight towards the witness, who was in shock and had no time to move as it brushed against his leg on passing. The cat then made a sudden change in direction before leaping over a tall fence or hedge. The cat was described as being perfectly black with a silky coat and approximately 2 - 2 1/2 foot high and although moved much faster than the dog was completely silent. I am only aware of one similar incident in Scotland in Aberdeenshire, where a dog likewise bolted into a forest, only for the big cat to come bounding out and physically strike and bowl over the witness in its hasty retreat. Close encounters of the furred kind!
scotty12 1,884
Been at least two incidents in Fife. One was a big cat chasing a dog which escaped by running over a busy road and the cat turned back from the road. The dog owner was knocked over by the cat as it rushed at the dog. Second incident was a spaniel dog ran officio a corn field after a big cat. Both animals were lost to sight in the corn but the dog never returned.
scotty12 1,884
Hi all, I have just joined this group as I witnessed a big black cat yesterday in a woodland area in my neighbourhood, and wasn’t sure where to report this information. It stared me out as I was walking towards it, but once I realised what it was and began backtracking it leaped off further into the woods. It was large, silky black, puma-like.
scotty12 1,884
surely they can’t all be mistaken in what they see and most of those sightings are all in a 30 mile radius of each other and then you get a report like the one below that doesn’t do previous sightings any favours … Hi, on Friday just past I was travelling from Edinburgh to Newcastle when just going through the boarders I spotted large black 'dog' running across a field. I looked for the owner but didn't see anyone. On looking back at the 'dog' I realised it had a feline head and the gait was different to a domestic dog. I came to the conclusion it was a very large black cat. Edited October 9, 2022 by scotty12

We ended up at small zoo east of Lincoln some months back when my mrs and daughters fancied a bit if a day out. They had this pair of Siberian Lynx there. (sub species of the Eurasian) I can't remember why they'd got them in captivity.. they're not in danger or anything. I was surprised at the noise it made as it's food was brought around.. for not a paticularly big cat.. packed a right punch!!
