I will donate this camera to your cat hunting if you would like it  lumix fz72 60x zoom

Was out for a walk with the dogs this morning, bumped into a fellow I sort of know through a lot of common interests we often stop for a chat,he hunts a bit and likes his old cars I have something for

Just re reading the whole thread and you’ve come under some real stick mate .Apologies for my part .Doesn’t mean I’m a believer just embarrassing some of the comments

To me its just the name "trophy" hunting! I just cant see myself ever wanting to kill an animal just because it looks nice. There's a massive difference between someone going out and running a fox with a lurcher or shooting a lion with a rifle! Can you even eat lion meat? I could do it if it was injured though or pride management but in all honestly it wouldn't feel right to slay such a fine animal just because I could afford it!

There are a lot of differences I agree but none I see as significant in the reasoning. Both are done for the same reason, the hunter wants to hunt the critter/beast/quarry because it's enjoyable, it fore-fills the instincts given to them from several hundred thousand years of hunting prior to the agricultural revolution 12k years ago.

There aren't many trophy hunters that only go out to bag the most impressive trophy as a sign of their superiority, that's a total fallacy. They hunt for exactly the same reason we all do, only they can dream bigger.

Terriermen want to dog the hardest subterranean quarry, lurchermen want to kill the fastest and hardest running quarry, African hunters want to experience the wild excitement of the dark continent and hunt the beasts it offers! Even rabbit lampers have the mythical 'ton', lol, with the essential cultural practice of the well deserved trophy shot!

In the UK, deer hunters of all flavours have their 'trophies' measured by the CIC in the hope of a medal. In New Zealand they have roar and hunting competitions/meets where everyone brings their largest stag, tahr or chammy trophy for entry. Same happens all over the West with game animals that aren't considered 'exotic' like African fauna generally is. Just normal working/middle class hunters like us lot that partake in a bit of trophy hunting, largely because hunters have an affinity with the natural world and like to collect shit and have a crack with like minded folk.

It just speaks volumes to me that everyone seems to find African hunters abhorrent yet know virtually f**k all about it.

PS you can eat Lion meat, yes. No idea how regularly it's actually harvested though.

And trophy hunters are happy to be driven out on a 4x4 and to shoot a captive lion from close range to take photos of it that's the difference! Have you been to africa and seen them do it any different then? I am only talking of canned/trophy hunts though, hunting a big cat on fairer terms would be an intense experience as long as it was real and not set up like most! One farm in south africa was even swapping old lions for cubs to zoos over there and releasing them in a few acres pens to be shot for trophies! Sorry but that is just not my thing

That's canned hunts, far cheaper than a real hunt, cecil the lion was a totally wild animal as walter palmer never faced any prosecution, and the bear hunts are totally different,no such thing as a canned bear hunt

Another fallacy. That's no more representative of African hunting than firing bull crosses out of a scooby window is of lurcher work.

Yes, fenced/canned hunting takes place, sometimes under the false guise of fair chase hunting to naive customers, often totally openly because the size of the ranch makes it effectively open. South Africa is big on that and essentially farming the quarry iirc. That's another topic in itself though and not without it's benefits or fair chase ethics on the better ranches. It literally saved the Southern White Rhino.

No I haven't been to Africa. But I do take an interest in it and have tried to educate myself on the industry rather than just watching the shite in the media, including actually chatting with English hunters that hunt in Africa.

Why are you exclusively talking about this canned hunting? It's no better than me sticking that video up of the Jeep chasing bambino with two f****d lurchers and saying "see, lurcher work is wrong". That's a fallacy, just like the generalisations on this thread about trophy hunting are.

And by canned hunting do you include the typical ranch in SA that is measured in square miles? You can travel over ten miles in a straight line on them and not see a fence.

Its gone from free-chase cougar and lynx hunting with dogs in canada youtube footage to canned lion hunts in the blink of an eye, good analogy about the jeep video born hunter, its no more comparable to lurcher work as recognised by 99.9% of lads on here than a canned lion is to free-roaming 100% wild lion or bear hunts which arent all turkey shoots.

don't think anyone said anything about African hunters( an African hunter is a Blackman with a spear and more skills than the pricks that get driven upto there quarry shoot it have a photo and get driven back to the hotel) I was referring to the video,s above, bear meat is very nice eating and a large bear will keep a family in meat for a winter absolutely know problem with that at all or the people that kill,s them, but I don't have time for some silly little man who just wants a photo sat on top of a mighty beast to compensate for a lack of dick and the need to prove what a great macho man he is, just my veiw on things

Pretty much yes when a lion's territory can exceed 100 miles in the wild. Off topic anyway

You sure that's not 100 square miles? Which ranches can be and are in some cases. Not that the potential size of some males territories matters in a discussion on hunting ethics. It's not like a hunt of an unfenced lion takes place over those distances.

As I have ever said, south Africa is a bit different in this respect to the other big game hunting countries and to make such a generalisation is plainly wrong.

You made pathetic accusations about big cat trophy hunters, I simply got to the point and included all people that hunt in Africa.

There's that little dick comment again, lol lol. Where do you get this shit from? Have you ever spoken to a trophy hunter? You realise the majority of them don't do it just for the photo and skin right?

Are lurcher lads that go about killing 15lb foxes with 60lb dogs insecure with little dicks too? Surely they must be to need to do such a thing just for fun? Especially the ones that want to go on safari dogging coyotes!

Soooo lads that dog foxes for the crack have little dicks? Let's not kid ourselves, when the average lurcherman kills a fox it ain't part of a predator control program, it's sport (for the sake of it).

Like I said, pathetic comment. Easy to hate on the hunters of africa when you've never had to justify such bile to one.

And regarding your okaying of mackem's bear hunt. I doubt filling his freezer is a significant factor in him wanting to hunt ole grizzly!

Its not for the skin, its not for the trophy, its the experience, for some people that's it in a nutshell, couple of weeks in the boonies, the search, hunt, stalk, shot all parcelled up,same as lads who would like to run coyote with dogs in the states or gazelle with dogs in the desert, its the experience, nowt to do with a penis extension :D (I will get that done cheap in Thailand :icon_redface:;) ).
